Feb 6 Volunteer Opportunity Fair

Explore volunteer opportunities at the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo!  Talk to our volunteers and learn about upcoming training classes at this open-house event.  Teens age 13-17 are invited to learn more  about our Z-TEAM program and adults age 18 and over can discover the variety of volunteer positions available.  Drop in between 6:00 – 7:30 PM at the Franke Park #1 Pavilion (located in the park, just beyond the zoo entrance).

Registration is not required.  Call Kathy Terlizzi, Volunteer Manager, at 260-427-6828 with questions.

Feb 11 Pre-literacy & Nature Play Workshop for Early Childhood Educators

Unplug your preschoolers from electronic media and get them involved in hands-on, authentic pre-literacy activities. This 90-minute workshop will inspire you to get your emergent readers excited about literacy and nature!

Cost:  Free.  This grant-supported workshop is available to Early Childhood educators in Adams, Allen, Huntington, Wabash, and Wells counties in Indiana only.

Feb 21 FREE Frog Watch Training

Join our grassroots conservation program! FrogWatch USA is a citizen science program that allows individuals and families to learn about the wetlands in their communities and help conserve amphibians by reporting the calls of local frogs and toads.

All are welcome to attend our FrogWatch USA training. Families, adults, teens, groups – anyone can help gather important information about amphibians in the Fort Wayne area and contribute to real conservation efforts!

Training classes will be held at the zoo’s Discovery Classroom on two Saturdays:  February 21 and  February 28, 2015, from 11 AM – 3 PM.  Bring a sack lunch or snack.  There is no fee to attend and you need only attend ONE of the classes. To register for the training or get more information, contact the Zoo Volunteer Office at 260-427-6828 or volunteer@kidszoo.org. You’ll be a part of real effort to preserve the natural wonders in your own back yard.

Feb 24 AAZK Lecture Series - Public Welcome

Join us for the next FREE installment of the AAZK Lecture Series.  Warren Pryor, from the University of St. Francis Biology Department and his student, a former wildlife vet assistant in Africa, will be speaking.

7pm in the Lower Level of the Diehm Museum

This event is sponsored by the Little Turtle Branch of the AAZK and light refreshments are provided.

The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo opens for its 50th season today!  Open 9 AM – 6 PM; last admission 5:00 PM; exhibits, rides, & buildings close at 5:30 PM; grounds close at 6:00 PM.

May 23 Animal Enrichment Workshop

Adults, children, families, and groups can assist in creating objects to stimulate animals’ interest and encourage natural behaviors at an Animal Enrichment Workshop.

Individuals need not register ahead of time and no previous training is required; just arrive at 10:00 a.m. ready to work. Group leaders should call the zoo’s Volunteer Office at 260-427-6828 at least one week in advance, with the ages and number of people in the group.

Workshops meet from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon in the lower level of the Diehm Museum, across the street from the zoo.

Even though we live far from the coast, you can take action to protect the oceans. Activities run from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM and are free with zoo admission.  World Oceans Day is sponsored by Sweetwater Sound.
