Family & Group Volunteering Opportunities
Join us at the Volunteer Opportunity Fair on Friday, February 3, 6-7:30 PM, in Franke Pavilion #1 to learn more about volunteering at the zoo!
Animal Enrichment Workshops
Adults, children, families, and groups can assist in creating objects to stimulate animals’ interest and encourage natural behaviors at an Animal Enrichment Workshop.
Individuals need not register ahead of time and no previous training is required; just arrive at the scheduled time ready to work. All workshop materials are provided and participants may want to wear old clothes.
Animal Enrichment Workshop schedule:
November 26, 2016 (9-11 AM)
May 27, 2017 (9-11 AM)
August 26, 2017 (9-11 AM)
November 25, 2017 (9-11 AM)
Workshops meet in the lower level of the Zoo Education Center across the street from the zoo.
Group leaders should call the zoo’s Volunteer Office at 260-427-6828 at least one week in advance, with the ages and number of people in the group. All children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult (a scout or group leader, parent, or guardian.)
Because it is a community service opportunity, the Animal Enrichment Workshop does not include zoo admission.
Join our grassroots conservation program! You’ll be a part of real effort to preserve the natural wonders in your own back yard. FrogWatch USA is a citizen science program that allows individuals and families to learn about the wetlands in their communities and help conserve amphibians by reporting the calls of local frogs and toads.
All are welcome to attend our FrogWatch USA training. Families, adults, teens, groups – anyone can help gather important information about amphibians in the Fort Wayne area and contribute to real conservation efforts!
At a training class, you’ll learn how to identify frogs by their calls. You’ll then visit local wetlands on your own to collect data about the frogs and toads present.
2017 FrogWatch Training Dates:
Saturday, 2/11/17 – 11 AM – 3 PM
Saturday, 2/18/17 – 11 AM – 3 PM
