Nepal
Established in 2007, Red Panda Network is a community-based organization committed to conserving wild red panda populations and their habitat. By using education and empowerment of local communities, Red Panda Network is working diligently to conduct research and gather data on red panda population, educate locals about the importance of red panda conservation, and empowering local governments to enact changes in red panda protection policies.
Why do they need our support?
Red panda populations have been steadily decreasing as they continue to face habitat loss in the eastern Himalayas. Their forest homes are disappearing as humans clear their homes of nesting trees and bamboo for natural resources and human expansion. Additionally, red pandas are the only remaining species in their taxonomic family. Working to preserve red pandas also helps preserve the eastern Himalayan forest areas they are native to, which is a biodiversity hotspot.
How is the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo helping?
The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo proudly financially supports the Red Panda Network in its efforts to empower local communities with community-based research, education, and carbon mitigation.
