MISSION:

                                   M arianas

At eight years old, I wide-eyed gazed at a fi re-red, fuzzy creature while holding tightly to my grandmother’s hand.
That day, I left Potawatomi Zoo with a stu ed red panda and a dream to work with animals. From there on out, my

stu ed red panda was the star of countless animal exams; fast forward 25 years, I have been fortunate enough

to work with endangered, threatened, rare, and even domestic zoo animals (though I can still examine a stu ed
                     animal at a moment’s notice).
As a Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo Veterinary Technician, I see fi rsthand the role we all play in conserving wildlife
for future generations. To further our work beyond the front gates, the Zoo has partnered with Mariana Avifauna
Conservation (MAC), and I, along with Head Veterinarian, Dr. Kami, will be traveling to Saipan to help two species
of birds: the Rufus Fantail and the Marianas Fruit Dove– I’m grinning even as I type the words!
