Every few years, the MAC focuses on two di erent bird species native to the Mariana Islands. The Mariana Fruit

Dove and the Rufous Fantail were also the main focus in 2017, when they were translocated to Guguan for a
better chance of long-term survival. Since all birds are banded upon release, surveys done by The Department of
Fish and Wildlife prove that breeding has taken place since there are now un-banded birds on Guguan. It is both
extremely inspiring and exciting to know that the e orts of those before me are creating insurance populations

to secure the future of these beautiful birds! By returning our focus to these species in 2022, we will be able to
bolster the population on Guguan and increase genetic diversity for a sustainable future.
I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to provide care that will ensure the survival of a species, with the hope
that an eight year old will gaze at their colorful feathers and be inspired to make their own conservation mark on
                 the world.
