SAFE, which stands for Saving Animals From Extinction, is a campaign created by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) to help raise awareness for threatened animals. The North American Songbird SAFE program is a part of this campaign that focuses specifically on North American songbirds and how we can sustain and increase wild songbird populations.

Why do they need you?

The North American Songbird SAFE works to protect over 300 species of songbirds native to North America. The conservation status of these species’ ranges from Least Concern to Critically Endangered. Many North American songbird species populations are decrease due to habitat loss, glass collisions, and international pet trade.

How is the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo helping?

The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo has joined other AZA-accredited institutions to gather research and prioritize conservation actions for protecting the North American songbird populations through North American Songbird SAFE.
