Happy National Zoo Keeper Week!

Happy National Zoo Keeper Week to all past, present, and future Keepers! From providing care to animals of all shapes, sizes, and colors to advocating for animal conservation, Zoo Keepers do it all!

National Zoo Keeper Week celebrates animal care professionals in zoos and aquariums across the country, highlighting the dedication and passion Keepers show year-round. On July 15, 2007, the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) lobbied with the United States Congress to recognize National Zoo Keeper Week and raise awareness for the animal care profession, as well as the incredible work and advocacy Zoo Keepers do every single day. Not only are Zoo Keepers ambassadors of the animals they care for, but they also work hard to inspire others to think about animal conservation and how they could take part in those efforts to save wildlife in wild places.

How can you celebrate National Zoo Keeper Week?

  • Visit the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo! The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is a nonprofit and by visiting the Zoo, you help bring our mission to life, as well as contribute toward the conservation efforts our Keepers are so passionate about.
  • Thank a Zoo Keeper! On your next visit to the Zoo, look for the dark green polos and thank these Keepers for all that they do.. Zoo Keepers work 365 days a year. Hot or cold, rain or shine, they are at the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo caring for the beautiful and diverse animals you come to see.
  • Raise awareness! Tell your friends and family about all the hard work it takes to be a Zoo Keeper. Pass on the conservation stories and efforts that Keepers may share with you to make sure everyone around knows that they can make a difference.
