Help Us Protect the Oceans

Did you know that more than 80% of the ocean is unmapped, unobserved, and unexplored? Or that only 35% of United States oceans and coastal waters have been mapped?

The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is dedicated to helping protect the oceans and the marine life that calls it home, even the ones we may not know exist yet! If we come together to do small acts, our oceans will benefit a lot!

Three small ways to make a big difference:

  • Skipping single-use plastics and investing in reusable items such as water bottles and reusable bags can help reduce the 8 million pounds of plastic dumped into the ocean each year.
  • Check the label of your seafood! Seafood Watch has easy-to-follow guides that make your trip to the grocery store more sustainable. https://www.seafoodwatch.org/recommendations/download-consumer-guides
  • Look for fruits and vegetables that are grown without pesticides. These pesticides contain toxins that run off into the oceans and can harm marine life.

But the easiest way to create a healthy ocean and abundant wildlife is by signing the 30×30 Nature Petition! In only a few seconds, you can sign the petition and let world leaders know that you want to protect at least 30% of the planet’s land and ocean by 2030, preserve the world’s existing intact areas and wilderness, respect the rights of indigenous peoples, and ensure our living planet is sustainably managed.

When we all work together to make small changes, the result can mean big progress!
